  • Some finds are exciting. GFX was extraordinary. Built on the 17th November 1965 and dispatched from the Solihull factory just eight days later, this left hand drive Series IIA 88" 2.25 petrol was destined not for the English countryside but for the Swiss Army. An export market vehicle from the very start, she is believed to have spent upwards of twenty years in dry storage within Swiss Army reserve stores — mothballed, preserved, and waiting. When eventually released from military service, she was exported to the United Kingdom, where Windsor Classics acquired her.

    The manner of her commission was no less remarkable. Hans Wollf, Production Director for Rolls-Royce, visited our stand at the Goodwood Members' Meeting and was immediately taken with one of our builds on display. An appointment to visit us in Windsor followed shortly after — and by the time Hans left our workshops, an order had been placed.

  • Hans's vision was as clear as it was evocative — a fully restored Series Land Rover to keep at his Bavarian hunting lodge. A vehicle that could earn its keep on the estate, tackle forest tracks and mountain paths, yet do so with the quiet assurance of a ground-up Windsor Classics restoration beneath her. Left hand drive was to be retained, naturally, for her life on the continent. And she would wear RAF Blue — a colour as distinguished as the company she would keep.
