#13 - MRF
1964 Series 3
-
Sometimes a Land Rover finds you. MRF — known affectionately as Mr F — is a 1974 Series III 109" hardtop who had been standing silently in the back garden of a house in Chobham since the 1990s, passed down to Steve and Andrea Hewitt from Andrea's father. For more than a decade he hadn't turned a wheel, and when Steve and Andrea called Windsor Classics, it was very much a mercy mission. Steve — perhaps better known as the drummer from nineties group Placebo — and Andrea simply wanted to know if their beloved family Land Rover could be saved.
A visit to Chobham made the scale of the task abundantly clear. Mr F was in a sorry state — dilapidated after years of exposure and neglect, he needed rather more than a jump start and a kind word. But beneath the rust and the silence, the bones were there. The patient was worth saving.

What began as a rescue mission soon became something altogether more ambitious. Steve and Andrea's attachment to Mr F ran deep — this was Andrea's father's vehicle, a piece of family history that no amount of patina could diminish. The brief evolved from simply getting him back on the road to a full ground-up restoration, returning Mr F to a condition that Andrea's father would have been proud of, whilst ensuring he was ready for many more years of family life.
