#1 - UPX

1968 Series 2A

  • Every story has a beginning, and for Windsor Classics, it begins with UPX. A 1968 Series IIA 88", she was one of our very first acquisitions — discovered on a farm in Devon where she had spent several years languishing quietly in a barn, long since forgotten by the road. Little is known of her earlier life, though her most recent occupants had been of the four-legged and feathered variety rather than the two-legged kind. Beneath the dust and the evidence of her various wildlife tenants, however, lay something unmistakable — the honest bones of a proper Land Rover, waiting patiently for someone who understood what she could become.

  • UPX was never a client commission. She was something altogether more personal — a statement of intent. Our brief was our own: to carry out a scrupulous ground-up restoration that would demonstrate, in every nut and bolt, the standard of workmanship upon which Windsor Classics would build its reputation. She would be the vehicle that proved what we could do, the first chapter in a story we hoped would run and run. Everything had to be right.

    • Full nut and bolt rebuild, faithful to her original specification

    • Full engine, gearbox and differential rebuilds

    • New wiring loom

    • Paintwork in her original factory Welsh Grey

    • Overdrive gearbox

    • Original Bakelite steering wheel retained and restored

    • Soft top
